Where to stay in Mallorca?
“¡Hola! ¿Qué tal?”
In today’s post – A travel guide to Mallorca -we will go on a fantastic adventure through Spain.
The country, the second largest in the European Union, borders Portugal. They both make part of the Iberian Peninsula.
One of the most amazing things you can do if you want to visit both countries is go on a road trip through them. The roads are great, and the borders are easy to cross.
So far, we have visited Spain more than 10 times and still counting! In fact, Luana lived in Salamanca for 3 months, years, and years ago.
Among all the visits to the country of siestas, tapas, and delicious sangrias, 4 of them were made by car. The first road trip was from Lisbon to Barcelona; you can find out more about it here.
Without further ado, in June 2021, we decided to take another road trip to Spain. This time, we would visit incredible Mallorca, one of Spain’s Balearic islands, for the first time.
Fun Facts about Spain
- Nudity is legal in Spain – although it’s considered inappropriate in plenty of places, nudity is legal in Spain. So don’t be surprised when you go to the ‘playas’ and see some naturists enjoying getting tanned.
- Boasts 47 UNESCO World Heritage Sites – very impressive, huh? Only Italy and China have more UNESCO World Heritage Sites – both have 55.
- Spain Is The Only European Country To Have A Physical Border With An African Country
- The First ‘Novel’ Is Attributed To A Spanish Author – Don Quixote and dates back to 1605
- The Spanish National Anthem Has No Words – the called “Marcha Real,” one of the world’s oldest national anthems, written in 1761, used to have words but not anymore.
Road Trip to Mallorca
Our travel guide to Mallorca starts in Portugal. We drove from Lisbon to Mallorca through the South Coast of Spain. This road trip was extra special because we brought my mother and sister with us.
It was just right after COVID restrictions started to lift up, so my mom was very excited to be able to travel again after so long.
We left the house on June 1st and divided the trip into a few stops so as not to get too tiring. We made the first stop in Faro (Portugal), the second in Estepona (Spain), then Alicante, and Valencia, where we took the ferry to Mallorca.
How to get from Valencia to Mallorca?
There are a few ferry options to go to the Balearic Islands, and they leave from different cities.
We chose ‘Balearia,’ which is a local ferry company and one of its locations leaves from Valencia Port.
Balearia offers a few options for going from Valencia to Mallorca:
- You can take the ferry at 5pm and arrive in Mallorca around 11pm or
- Take the ferry at 7pm and at 5am
We decided to take the ferry at 7pm and arrive at 5am because, that way, we would save on accommodation.
We reserved a cabin with bunker beds and a bathroom. That way, we could sleep all the way through Mallorca. We definitely recommend this option. We felt we didn’t lose time transitioning from one place to another compared to just spending 6 hours of our day at the ferry.
Where to stay in Mallorca?
We stayed in two different hotels: Cap Vermell and Jumeirah Port Soller.
Cap Vermell
This fantastic resort could never be out of our travel guide to Mallorca. In the first days, we stayed in Cap Vermell, a stunning and gorgeous hotel with an excellent location and just a few minutes biking to the nearest beach.
In addition to the hotel facilities, the guest has access to the Cap Vermell Country Club, which is just around the corner. The club has indoor and outdoor pools, gym classes, restaurants, and more.
Another thing that we also loved here was the breakfast. Again, there are five different types you can choose from, each with its peculiar characteristic items.
To schedule your breakfast for the following day was very easy. Each room has a tablet, and everything is done by it. You can also order other hotel services the same way.
Nearby Cap Vermell, there are also beautiful beaches to visit where you can enjoy the view and discover local restaurants.
The first one we went to was Canyamel, a beach located just 5 minutes by bike from the hotel.
Another beautiful beach in the region is Cuevas de Artà. It’s also easier to go by bike than by car. It only takes 5 minutes.
We also had lunch at the Port Verd Del Mar restaurant on the same day. I don’t quite remember the exact location of the restaurant, but it was just right at sea with a gorgeous view and great food.
We were so in love with all places we were visiting in Mallorca that the island quickly entered the list of the most beautiful places we had ever seen.
Jumeirah Port Soller
We’ve known Jumeirah hotels for a long time, primarily because of their massive presence in the Middle East. We’ll give you an example. Have you heard of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai? It’s the only 7 star hotel in the world. So when we found out that they are also present here in Mallorca and that it has a cliff top location, we were too excited to visit the place.
The hotel has incredible views of the mountains and the sea. As soon as we arrived, we visited the Spa and relaxed with a delicious massage. To end the day, we chose the Sunset Lounge to have dinner and admire the view of a breathtaking sunset.
Gastronomic experiences are one of our favorite things to do when we are traveling. In addition, we love trying local food! So we enjoyed having lunch at Cap Roig, located inside Jumeirah Port Soller.
We tried a few dishes recommended by the fantastic staff. They were all made with local and very fresh products.
Out of curiosity, the restaurant’s name is the name of a typical fish from Mallorca.
Visiting Port de Sóller
Very near the hotel, there’s Port de Sóller village. You can take advantage of the Ferrocarril de Soller to walk around and get to know the region better.
This historic cable car/tram takes you from the center to the port and back. The hotel offers this service to its guests. Another option to tour the region is to visit the Port Soller marina, with a beautiful view and several excellent local restaurants.
Playas to visit in Mallorca
Cala Lombard was the first beach we visited in Mallorca, and we have no words to describe how beautiful this place is!
One important thing for us was easy access so my mom and sister could get there. Cala Lombard has very easy access, and the drive was 40 minutes from the ferry terminal.
Cala D’Or and Cala Mondrago are two other wonderful beaches. They were recommended by a follower, and both were great for the whole family.
We spent 4 days in Mallorca and fell in love with the island.
After Mallorca, we went to Ibiza and Formentera, other Balearic Islands, but they are a subject for another post.
We hope you liked our travel guide to Mallorca.
See you at our next destination.
